Letter from the Director:
Dear Prospective Parents,
I am thrilled to have the opportunity to share with you a little bit about the Pre-Kindergarten program at St. Timothy School. As the director, I am very proud to be part of a program that addresses the child in a holistic manner. At the St. Timothy Pre- Kindergarten program, each child is given multiple opportunities to grow and learn academically, spiritually, cognitively, emotionally, physically and socially. We believe that children learn through active participation with their environment. We offer multi-sensory activities that engage the children and address their needs and interests.
The program covers concepts that prepare the children to enter Kindergarten. Academically, we seek to expand the child's attention span, follow directions and follow classroom rules. The children work toward building good group and independent work habits . Daily language and reading activities help the children develop the ability to do the following: recognize letters, understand letter-sound correspondence, and begin to phonetically read short words. Math skills are also reinforced daily. The children will be able to group, pattern, recognize numbers, count, and solve simple mathematical problems. Socially, we teach the children to take turns, share, work cooperatively, and build frienships.
By the completion of the Pre-Kindergarten program, we hope and plan that children will have developed a positive self-image, independence, confidence, and respect for themselves, school and others. We truly believe that parents are our co-educators. We look forward to continuing to develop and build a community atmosphere where there is a connection between home and school.
